Welcome from the Headteacher

Summary of experience and qualifications:

Masters Degree in Applied Educational Leadership and Management from the University of London (2016)

National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). The standard for headteachers in the UK and recognised internationally.

Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from Sheffield City Polytechnic

Bachelor Degree in Economics and Geography from the University of Keele.

A teacher for over 20 years in the UK state sector, I have been in international education for eight years as a teacher or school leader, including the Institut Le Rosey in Switzerland, a Head of Secondary in Dubai, a Founding Principal in China and a Principal in Thailand before coming to Southern International School.

In the short time I have been at SIH, I have been attracted to, and recognised its strengths as a young but leading international school in Southern Thailand.

First, the people of SIH make it a fantastic place to learn and to work. We have high expectations of our students and staff in order to be true to our vision, mission and aims, and pride ourselves on the commitment and teamwork. SIH is a warm, happy place with a can-do attitude. Our school board are ambitious for the school, are committed to international education and supportive of me as headteacher.

We have an extremely attractive site, with enclosed and shaded garden play area for Kindergarten children, fully equipped grassy playground and covered sports hall with changing rooms and showers. Our latest addition of a conservation area (designed by one of our own students) and large grassed recreation area adds to our excellent environment.

Our classrooms are attractive, spacious and well-equipped with wifi and interactive whiteboards and we have a well-stocked library. We are always looking to improve on the facilities and have recently renovated and extended our art studio.

The total experience of our students is a broad, challenging, developmental and fun one. We offer the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) because it fits in with our international school status, makes the English National Curriculum more appropriate for an international setting and is taught successfully in over 1800 schools in more than 90 countries. As IPC says, it delivers ‘Great Learning, Great Teaching and Great Fun’. We are the only school in Southern Thailand to offer it.

Higher up the school, we offer a modified version of the English National Curriculum to take into account our location in South East Asia. Supported and assessed by Cambridge International Education, our teaching is inquiry based with an emphasis on developing basic skills and concepts and building a firm foundation for the IGCSE and A levels.

Outside classes we offer a broad, interesting and active after-school clubs programme, including English for parents! We also have a calendar rich in activities and celebrations to reflect our international school status.

Of course, it is easy to say what we are and what we aim to be, but I invite you to see for yourselves in order to make a confident choice. You are welcome to visit us at any time and enrol your student in our trial programme. Please contact us if you have any questions.
