Primary school at Southern International School Hatyai is for students aged 5-11 and closely follows the National Curriculum of England for English and Maths, and IPC for Information Technology; Science; History; Geography; Art; Music; Physical Education; and Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE).
At the Primary Level the Primary curriculum covers Key Stage 1 (Years 1 to 2) and Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6).
In Primary, we emphasize developing the key skills for children to become life-long learners with a global mindset and ethical personal qualities. Our curriculum embraces the learner-centered principles of the IPC and incorporates the professional experience of teachers from different English-speaking countries. Children also learn Thai language, Thai culture, or Thai as a foreign language, as a mandatory requirement from the Ministry of Education, and as an important part of their cultural development.
Assessments are carried out to ensure continual progress and understanding of the children and their needs. Assessment results are used to define the learning goals of each child, and ensure these goals are met. At SIH, learning goals are divided into three types - subject-related goals; international goals; and personal goals.
Each goal will be set by teachers based on the student’s performance. At the end of each term, students are assessed in relation to set targets. Assessment methods range from discussion, written tests, or complete assignments done independently, or in group. Assessment reports are produced at the end of each term with opportunities for parents to meet with class teachers.
